I also have two paintings from Ted Lewy that I pick up at a secound hand store. They are in great shape and wanting to their value. One is of the golden gate bridge, the other of some fishermen with a net. Any information will be helpful.

Thanks for the information. I am going to an auction were there is advertised a “Painting”. If so I would be very interested in it. If it is a print but advetized as a painting I want to know that. Your infomation might prove very helpful.

If my signature on the painting is not enough… then I don’t have to prove squat to you morons… lol… that is my husband in the damn thing – sitting on the fountain! lol.

if you are going to be stupid and steal… then be smart enough not to get caught. And if you get caught… dont be double-stupid and tickle the tiger.

Everytime I see another letter from your attorney… I will have the great pleasure of giving a news report here.

They have been reported to the Better Business Bureau. A case file is open while they argue with me over the fact that I didn’t prove to them, well enough, that painting is mine. Also, that their innocence is based on the fact that they farm images off of the internet and ignorantly assume that if its on the web, its free.

“…there were more than 1.2 million similar renditions available on the internet at that time.” (from their attorney) oops… caught ya picking through Google Search.

In their first letter to me, they stated, “…it was not unintentional.”

Please note: You CAN NOT take images off of the internet for purposes of reproduction to sell from Artist and Photographer’s websites. It is illegal.

Artists: do a search once a month for the ‘Title’ of your piece. And do a search for your complete domain addy where they are hosted. Move to the back pages of the search engine and patiently go through the ‘images’.

These people are usually stupid enough to steal you image and then only link to the image on your server – not even bothering to upload to their own. A strange link to your image will be found on their website. Or like in this case, they stole the image off my server, then used the same title as my painting.

We managed to get my artwork taken down from the site. However, I encourage all artists to pass this news on and to check the site for their own pieces. They strip your name and file under the category of “Unfamiliar” in the Artists A-Z list. Please pass this on!

I am hesitating to set up a small “online store” for inexpensive gifts (mugs, calendars, cards, “mini-prints”…) themed to my mother’s watercolor art. Her website is http://www.danielefraboulet.com . Do you have any experience with cafepress? Is it a usefull source of income/visibility ?

Sergey,
Signing up is easy. I would sign up with Paypal first, since they will give
you all the billing, shipping services that you need. You can do that here:
Paypal
Then click on the eBay Marketplace logo on this page:
Auctions and then click on the register link at
the top. It is very easy. They have wizards for everything, so the only
info you need is a pic (which you can upload and store on eBay, or put in
the url of the pic on your website) and description of the artwork. Again,
I would recommend opening a store, which they also offer. They also have
made it very, very easy to set up.
There will be no charge to sign up to Paypal. They charge a commission only
after the sale has processed.
There is no charge to sign up to eBay. They charge a nominal listing fee
and a final value fee. The final value fee you only pay if the item sells.
The fees are on a sliding scale according to the value of the item.
After the item sells, you can print the shipping label right from Paypal.
Pack it, weigh it and slip the label on. Now, eBay even has International
Shipping Calculators, so they have taken all the extra work out. You can
even request free package pick-up (next day).
Get started and then email me with any other questions you have as you go
along.

Thank you for your email and the invitation to view your father’s work. I

I do have a suggestion for you…and that would be eBay! I do very well
there with my work and you have several options on selling. The more
expensive items that you do not want to sell for too little can be placed in
an eBay store for as little as .06 cents (US) a month. Other items, you can
place in the auctions in different formats i.e., auction-style listings and
fixed-price listings. Now, the bonus to all of this…is that many art
representatives, dealers, gallery owners and the like, browse the eBay
listings looking new artists and artworks. This is an added exposure bonus!
My auctionswill give you a idea. You can also
visit my store by clicking on any of the listings and get an idea of how I
have set mine up. Also, I do a lot of International shipping and have had
no problems collecting payment through Paypal. You can sign up here:

Thank you for your lovely comments in my guestbook.
To answer your question…I have never taken any classes. I did sign up once for a community class at the adult school here, but that was a disaster! A woman showed up…said, “take out your supplies and start painting. I believe students learn best by just doing.” That was it. Half the class got up and left and the rest just stood there dumbfounded.
And for your other question…I can’t remember-even as a small child, not knowing that this was what I was going to do for the rest of my life. To this day, if I am busy with all the other aspects of running a business, house and family-without accomplishing some creative process in a day…my personality changes. Creating is as much a part of me-and as necessary, as the air I have to breathe to stay alive. It sounds full of drama, but true. I will often catch myself humming for no apparent reason, after I have finished a day, an hour or even a few minutes of painting.
